Who am I, What am I doing here?

What is a blog? What does a blog say about the person who writes the blog? Is a blog more than just publishing content for the sake of it?

This blog will come from the perspective of an expat who is now a resident alien. I have many varied and key interests, all of which I could probably talk about but the blog will be referenced in a time and space. It will reflect  the now, consider the future and (if required) make use of history. There may even be references to cricket.

What this blog must not become is a vehicle for narcissism.

By applying the rules of self-determination,  I hope that this blog will document not just my hopes, fears and aspirations but provide some answers to the question of Life, The Universe and Everything (Spoiler Alert : The answer is 42).

Warning : The opinions expressed in this web-log are my own, carefully collected over years of watching the world through cynical and incredulous eyes.

” “I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannheuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time. Like tears in the rain. Time to die.”

Taken from Bladerunner, Roy Batty’s final words

NOT TIME TO DIE JUST YET……… TOO MUCH STILL TO SAY, EXPERIENCE  AND ENJOY…….

dont write about cricket if you want americans to read this! Could be a cultural difference too far!

Bladerunner is one of my favorite movies. I met the producers of that movie once and told them how much I liked it and there response was, thank you to you and the other guy who saw it. oh well. I liked it

I think Bladerunner is possibly one of the most influential movies of all time. Yes, it was not well received at the time (mainly in my view to the forced voiceover and the “happy ending” which was dealt with in the Directors Cut), and it was not a cheerful experience but I love this film. I have every version of it and have forced so many people to watch it over the years – most of whom have said “oh that looks like (insert generic sci-fi film), was it influenced by etc?” that I should be getting some kudos from Ridley. Whenever I am feeling uninspired, I just watch the “Hades Shot” at the beginning and I realise that there is nothing that can’t be achieved. Thanks for your comment, any time you want to discuss movies further just let me know!

Mornin’, David.

I’ve just been introduced to your blog by your F-i-L, having luxuriated in his & Heidi’s visit more than I can express. Rather enjoying what I read here, too. [Probably won’t be able to spend a lot of time on your thoughts until the house is sold, but look forward to more opportunity in the (not too distant?) future.]

McKenna happily anticipates spending more time w/ you guys, & I’m grateful for your invitation to her. She mentioned that your birthday girl hasn’t been well recently. Hopefully today will find her returned to her normal exuberance.

Can appreciate your sentiments re: those Bermuda ants. I believe, tho, that intense beauty is sometimes less apparent to us lacking a contrast to it.

Be well.

Thanks Claudia for checking out the blog – Ralph will now expect some sort of royalty payment!

It’s great that Daniella and McKenna have reconnected, sometimes when you lose touch with someone it makes it so much better when they migrate back into your social circle.

I have been remiss with the blog recently (trying to find a job that pays in a world of Citizen Journalism) but will be posting on a more regular basis.

Thanks for looking after my in-laws, maybe we will get the chance to head out West ourselves soon.
