A Triumph For Socialism whilst Glenn Beck Weeps (Probably).

22 03 2010

I woke up this morning in a brave, new world.

Last night after much deliberation in the House, with the yielding of the occasional minute to the gentleman (or woman) from the Great State of Wherever to discuss or support or reject the Bill being presented, Healthcare Reform squeaked through by 219 votes to 212.

Democrats rejoiced, Republicans voiced their displeasure at “the socialist utopia that has been placed on the back of the American people.”

That is exactly what has happened. The bastion of freedom and democracy has fallen to the red hordes of Communism. Even now the Maoist sympathisers are deciding which piece of the USA to carve up next to further their dreams of a nation of collective farms and matching outfits.

The ghost of Karl Marx has been spotted in Washington, raising a glass to the proletariat who have made this possible and who have ensured that their voices will be forever remembered as the greatest of Comrades.

Все хорошие вещи прибывают к тем, кто ждет

I’m joking of course, but that is what it will feel like for those who have been whipped into a frenzy by the Right-Wing Conservative Media.

So what happens now? Now that the “time has expired” and the gavel has been struck, will we finally get the answers that we have been looking for?

Haven’t the foggiest. I watched the entire debate on C-Span and I still didn’t really have a clue what was going on.

I  had to rely on the BBC to provide me with any real analysis, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8579658.stm, and even then it seems it still has to go to the Senate for final approval – but this appears to be a done deal!

If you have never had the chance to watch a live debate in Congress, then I urge you to tune in for when the next big reform is being debated. Although after yesterday, the desire to listen to elected representatives bicker and whine has left me wondering how many of them actually understand what they are debating.

Parliamentary procedure played out in a series of polite yielding and “facts” from both sides, with pride being tempered with disgust (including some vile insults being directed at the Democrats, which included “baby killer” and the N-word). The passing of this bill has killed freedom (apparently).

But what does it all really mean?

It means that adequate healthcare will be available to more Americans and that Insurance Companies will not be able to deny coverage to people who believed that the policy they have been paying for was actually there to provide insurance in the event of sickness and ill-health. It could see the price of prescription drugs fall to a manageable level and it could mean that companies may receive tax credits for providing health insurance.

But best of all, some of the reforms contained within the bill may be implemented immediately. Others will come into force in 2014.

Seriously, 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone want to bet whether Obama will still be in office to see his brave new socialist/marxist/communist/Maoist world actually take shape?

Not if Glenn Beck has anything to do with it.

*FYI, the russian at the top means All Good Things Come To Those Who Wait, the USA has waited for healthcare reform for many years but only time will tell if the measures listed in the huge document will actually be what is required. Watch this space.
